A Septic tank is the "Digester" in your septic system and needs to be regularly maintained by removing sludge and scum from the tank to keep it working properly. That's what is protecting you from costly Soil Treatment Area repairs or sewage backing up into the house. At Durango Septic we recommend pumping the tank every 2 to 4 years depending on usage.
