Tuliptree Site Design
We design and install residential landscapes, working closely with our clients to create outdoor living spaces of exceptional beauty, sustainability, and quality. We design complete master plans or individual elements as requested, at any scale from large multi-acre properties to the most intimate spaces.

Depending on our clients' needs, we may include in our designs the layout and materials of driveways, entry areas, walkways, terraces, walls, decks, fences, pools, play areas, lighting, irrigation, furniture, shrub and flower borders, screening trees, ornamental and shade trees, kitchen gardens, meadows, native plantings, and woodland management.

We strongly believe in delivering landscape designs that are not only consistently beautiful year after year, but that are healthy both for people and the environment. Sustainability is more than just a concept to us, but is an active process based on a constant awareness of energy efficiency, environmental impacts, and ecological benefits.

We have enjoyed working with Michael Mushak for almost 20 years, on dozens of projects on properties in Bedford NY, Pawling NY, and New York City. The projects included master plans, driveways, shade trees, an apple orchard, shrub borders, flower borders, terraces, and a beautiful one-acre wildlife pond that he located perfectly in the view from our 1870 farmhouse.
Press
Report
Michael Mushak worked closely with the client and architect to create a landscape master plan for the renovated home in New Canaan, CT, that blended dramatic existing features such as mature trees and pond, with new features including stone walls, fences, walkways, terraces, and lush plantings of trees, shrubs, flower borders, and groundcovers.
Traditional
Report
The large brick home called for a formal and restrained landscape treatment using traditional boxwood and specimen trees, and bluestone terraces with brick seat-walls. The pool provided an opportunity to add a modern twist to this layout, with a simple but dramatic sweep of tall ornamental grass as a backdrop that sways with the slightest breeze.
Modern
Report
An important and unique modern residence and landscape, designed by renowned architect Edward Larrabee Barnes in 1972, was in dire need of restoration after years of neglect. Working closely with the new owner, and using the original plan as a guideline, a new landscape plan was designed to restore and update the original landscape features at the same time the house was being restored.
Natural
Report
A random selection of images of our work emphasizing the respect we have for designing with nature, and utilizing ecologically sustainable techniques whenever possible.

Our design solutions may include the reduction of lawn areas by converting to woodlands or meadows; preserving existing trees and plant communities; encouraging native species and reducing invasive species where needed; use of gravel drives and natural drainage techniques to reduce and filter stormwater runoff; or even simply adding a well-placed bench in a natural setting to create a pleasing composition with no environmental impact.
