Established in 1911, City Floral Garden Center is the oldest remaining greenhouse in Denver. The Lammermann family founded a greenhouse for cut flower production and Mr. Lammerman would ride his bicycle down Colfax Avenue (then a dirt road) and deliver cut violets to the Brown Palace. The greenhouse continued production of cut flowers including carnations, roses, snapdragons, iris, tulips, poinsettias, and chrysanthemums until the 1970s.
That was the rise of bedding plant and foliage production which created the garden centers of today.
