Solar Kauai has been dedicated to providing our island with the highest quality solar service. Solar Kauai was founded in 1979 and was the very first solar company on the Garden Isle. With close to 40 years of operation and over 8,000 solar systems installed, our expertise and experience speaks for itself.
When you make the change to go solar you are not just saving money, you are also saving some of our most precious resources and taking steps to become more energy self-sufficient and less dependent on KIUC. By using solar power you can protect yourself from the unpredictability of future spikes in electric prices.
A typical solar power system costs $8,000 after tax credits. If you divide that amount by a typical $300 a month electric bill the system would pay for itself in 2.1 years. After the system is paid off enjoy having free electricity for the lifespan of the system (50+ years).

Overview
Report
Solar Power Systems (PV) produce energy from sunlight. A cost-effective easily installed system can generate all of the electricity required to run your home. During the sun-lit hours of the day the system produces power for your home as well as excess power that is sold back to the utility company (KIUC).
How It Works
Report
Solar modules (panels) mounted on the roof or grounds of your property convert sunlight into DC power. This power is sent to a device called an Inverter (or power converter) which converts the DC Power from the Solar Modules to AC Power identical to that being sent to you from the Utility Grid. Below is an example of the type of inverters Solar Kauai recommends, a SMA Central Inverter.

Cost & Savings
Report
There is a 30% Federal Tax Credit, and on top of that there is a 35% Hawaii State Tax Credit for residential homes or up to $500,000 for commercial business. Line tied systems are typical and require no batteries or generators cost approximately $5,000 per kilowatt installed. Off grid systems that require large battery banks and backup generators typically cost about $8,000 per kilowatt for a complete installation.
