Celtic Risers
Septic service is a dirty business, and we have been in the on-site sewage/septic system business for over a decade. That adds up to a lot of "dirt." Our main service area is from Coupeville and south, but we do also service systems in and beyond Oak Harbor. We are a family owned business, members of WOSSA (Washington On-Site Sewage Association, ) and a licensed O&M provider in Island County.

A majority of Whidbey Island, Washington, just like most rural areas of the country, use septic tanks and drain fields to dispose of household waste. Proper, responsible care of your entire septic system can ensure years of trouble-free operation. A good rule of thumb for septic health is: If it hasn't gone through you first, it shouldn't go down the drain.

Septic systems are not a hands-off operation. So it is important to have routine septic service to maintain the proper design function of the system. When we started in this messy business, our primary service was locating septic tanks and installing risers (access covers to grade) on older septic systems.
Services
Testing Residual Head Pressure
Report
Celtic Risers inspections include testing the residual head pressure of the lateral lines/drain field. This helps determine the flow through the lines. A lack of pressure (water column height) could indicate a clog in the lines or a weak pump that needs replacement.
Riser installation on the access lids
Report
Celtic Risers main service is installing risers to existing septic tank access lids. Historically, septic tank lids were buried with the tank and covered with 18 or more of dirt or other ground cover. With Island County's new laws regarding inspections and routine pumping, riser lids are becoming a convenient necessity.
Locate before you pour – Cutting for access
Report
Before pouring a brand new concrete patio, make sure you locate the septic tank access lids. Otherwise the patio slab will become cut stones. Older homes with septic systems have their tanks and access lids buried underground and a false assumption that a septic system will operate untouched forever.
Clogged Pipes & Caution of treatments
Report
Clogged drain field laterals are the end of a septic system. Maintaining a functioning septic system is key for extending the life of your drain field. Here, the septic tanks hadn't been pumped in years which forced sludge and scum into the lateral leech lines in the drain field. Once the lateral lines become saturated with solids/bio-film, the only option is to replace the entire drain field lateral line components.
Hidden Gem: Designing your own
Report
Not all septic tank riser installations have to look identical with an exposed, green access lid. Here, our client got creative with their patio furniture and used it to hide the septic tank access lids with risers, while still being 100% accessible for service. Definitely a hidden gem! Stay away from a vegetable garden over the drain field.
