Good Shepherd Geriatric Center began when the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society purchase an unfinished building to provide care for the aged and infirmed. The Manor was developed by converting the former Hanford Hotel to 100 one and two bedroom apartments for independent senior living. Shalom Tower I was built as a HUD Section 8 96 unit independent living apartment complex for low-income seniors.
Telephone Reassurance program was instituted based on identified need to monitor seniors in their own homes to maintain independence and safety. This service continues to be offered at no cost to participants today. Shalom Tower II a HUD Section 202 project, was built adding 48 independent living apartments for low income seniors.
Cornerstone Assisted Living opens, residents on 1st floor of original geriatric center are relocated to new building. Space is converted into 18 assisted living apartments and named Cornerstone Assisted living. 16 one bedroom assisted living apartments added to 2nd floor of original building, cornerstone.

Prairie Place on 1st, Inc

Prairie Place on 1st is a condominium complex for independent living seniors. This building was designed in a missionary style, inspired by the architectural design of Frank Lloyd Wright. Prairie Place is located on the south side of Good Shepherd's campus. The building offers 32 condominiums featuring 6 different floor plans along with a great amenities such as it's convenient downtown location, underground parking, and community rooms.

ABOUT THERAPY - The Good Shepherd Health Center therapy team is made up of highly qualified physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists. This team provides therapy services to individuals at Good Shepherd and even makes "house calls" to those in the continuum including, Cornerstone assisted living facility, Kentucky Ridge assisted living, Shalom Towers, and the Manor.
