At Dan Miller Architects (DMA), our guiding principles are collaboration, sustainability, and context. We aim for quality design through creative problem-solving. We renovated the kitchen and built a one-story frame addition on the rear of this early-20th-century single-family home. The kitchen was updated and improved for flow to the new family room. The family room steps down from the kitchen to be closer to the garden, and glass bi-fold doors open to help dissolve the separation between indoor and outdoor.

We replaced nearly 700 linear feet of railings along three floors of balconies on this 24-unit condominium building, and repaired the concrete balcony floors. The new railings and railing support system were custom designed.

The City of Chicago requires that building faades over 80 feet tall be inspected regularly for maintenance and repair issues, especially related to safety. Inspections include superficial inspections from the ground and up-close inspections from swing stage rigs. We ride the swing stages, survey the exteriors and record conditions, and write reports as required by the City's faade ordinance.

We replaced a temporary kiosk with this permanent ticket booth. It is constructed entirely out of metal and designed to blend in with similar park structures. We renovated this two-story commercial building to prepare the 1st floor for renting, make the 2nd floor ADA accessible, and meet exiting requirements throughout.
