IPE is very dense wood, which can resist rotting. However to keep it looking nice, you need to seal it periodically (once every twelve months or so). Bear in mind that, IPE decks are tricky to refinish. Make sure you use the right sealer, most product out there are made for redwood and cedar. Not necessarily, you can find a high quality water base sealer on the market, that exceed oil base products.
