Essentially, chimney flashing functions as weather stripping for your chimney and is made up of three major parts: step flashing, counter flashingalso called cap flashingand base flashing.
Step flashing is an L-shaped piece of metal that lies under the roofing shingles and along the brick of your masonry chimney.
Counter or cap flashing is also an L-shaped metal piece, but it is designed to cover the step flashing and embedded into a groove cut in the chimney brickwork.
Base flashing is used at the joint between a vertical surface and the roofing surface, in this case the base of the chimney, guarding against water penetration.
These parts, together with caulk create a waterproof seal.

Highly recommended. Vin was quick to respond, he described all details in a friendly manner--with samples to look at. His crew was excellent and worked tirelessly all day. They did a wonderful job and cleaned up nicely. Getting a new roof is not cheap, but Vin's quote was competitive and lower than most. I'm happy we chose CD Roofing

His low keyed approach, and knowledgeable assessment of the job created a sense of confidence that it would be done correctly, and that he is in the business for the long haul, and would stand by his work. His low overhead allows for very competitive prices, the material used are of good quality, the crew worked hard, clean, and quickly. I am very satisfied with the job and his company.

I would like to say I cannot say enough good things about Vin he is a very conscious business man and when he says he will do something he follows through\. Extremely trustworthy and can be taken at his word always. Unlike other business I have had to deal with Vin far exceeds any in this area at least and I'm sure all over. Vin and his team were great through every phase of our roof replacement. Vin was responsive, coming out to our home multiple times and answering our many questions. His quote was very competitive and he was able to get materials quickly (a feat in today's market). The team was professional and thorough, even combing the woods behind our house to clean what the very windy day blew back there. Very happy with our new roof!

I am very pleased with the project from start to finish. Vin kept me in the loop, texted me when the dumpster and materials would be arriving. Crew promptly arrive the day scheduled. Stripped old roof, replaced some plywood, finished the roofing job before the end of the day. Did an excellent job cleaning up, even had a magnet to pickup all the nails on the ground. The crew was courteous and hard workers. Very pleased with the service and the final price was the price quoted - no extras.
