By providing fruit tree care and education, we graft the knowledge from professional arborists and orchardists to share with you - the backyard grower. Our mission is to pioneer a new and abundant fruitscape, creating cultural change across Los Angeles County. Recognizing the need for fruit tree education, Joanna was inspired to launch the Fruitstitute.
Joanna's love of gardening and growing began at The Ron Finley Project, where she planted and tended edible gardens on the streets of South LA. Formally trained in fruit tree care at Huntington Ranch, Joanna knew after her first class that she was born to prune. She soon joined forces with the public art project, Fallen Fruit as a Fruit Tree Specialist and Community Engagement Manager.
Joanna holds a Masters in Health and Social Change from USC Annenberg School of Communication and is currently studying for her arborist certification. She looks forward to taking care of all your fruit tree needs. We teach hands-on workshops and offer lectures on all things fruit tree - both in person and online - including pruning, planting, nutrition and history.
