If your air conditioner stopped working first go though this checklist before calling for A/C Repair Service. It may be something simple you can resolve. This example would be for a split system where the A/C is outside on the ground and the furnace and evaporator coil is in the house. Is this a sudden problem where the a/c was working great and now suddenly stopped cooling?

Before turning on your Air Conditioner, here are a few do it your self maintenance steps you should do. It's best to do this in the spring on a warm day before you need your A/C. With the unit turned off, wash off the outside unit coil with water. Spray water on the perimeter of the outside coil until the water draining off of the unit and its clear.

The nice things about most modern heaters is that they do not require much maintenance. Call for professional service if you have any concerns or if it's been years since being looked at. Turn on the heater, if its the first time open some windows as the dust will burn off of the heat exchanger. Check your smoke alarms and get a good carbon monoxide detector with a digital readout.
