Course Information

The Alabama Master Gardener Program is provided and administered by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. It is an educational program to train and certify individuals who, in turn, volunteer their expertise and time in support of the Cooperative Extension effort as well as organizations that foster horticultural science and best practices in local communities.
Intern Information
Report
Individuals are considered Master Gardener Interns for the first year following their completion of the Master Gardener Training course. The intern year gives current and recent course attendees opportunities to extend their classroom learning and report the 50 hours of approved volunteer service required for Certification as an Alabama Master Gardener.
Crape Myrtle Bark Scale
Report
This new "bug", Crapemyrtle Bark Scale (CMBS), is an insect from Asia that attacks crapemyrtles. CMBS, first identified in Texas in 2004, has now spread to at least 12 additional states including Alabama. It has been verified in all areas of both the City of Huntsville and Madison County. The scale first appears as white or grey waxy crustations around pruning cuts and in the crotches of branches of crape myrtles.
