Since 1995, Molly Wood Garden Design has been creating award-winning outdoor spaces. Based in Costa Mesa, CA, our boutique firm has completed over 500 landscape design projects throughout Orange County, as well as properties in Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and San Diego counties.

My earliest childhood memories are sitting by a creek, building rock pools for my dolls to play in. I became more seriously interested in design after high school while traveling and working in Europe. This was definitely a time of awakening and inspiration. I became fascinated with the beauty and simplicity of symmetry, the sense of place and permanence that structure provides, and the concept of creating spaces that evoke emotion.

This outdoor space was created for an active family with two young children. The front driveway is softened with synthetic turf for ease of maintenance and water savings. Enter the gate and you are welcomed by a pool, chaise lounges and fire pit anchored by a canopy of trees for shade and shadows, as well as dramatic night time lighting and ambiance.
Mediterranean estate

This classic Mediterranean oceanfront home is a great example of how we can update and improve upon an existing landscape. We designed around the existing pool, spa, and brick hardscape and added a bocce ball court, fire pit, and raised dining area to create a more functional, user-friendly space. The hardscape materials were tied into by matching the brick and adding gravel to link the spaces.
Functional family fun

This backyard retreat was a complete re-do. A growing family needed more livable space without going through the expense of a complete home remodel. Our solution was to essentially add 4 "rooms" and functions to the outdoor space. The covered casita is open on 2 sides to the garden, and with its solid roof acts as a secondary living room.
