Peace of Mind - San Juan County relies on underwater transmission of electricity from the mainland and then overhead power lines to homes and businesses on the 20 islands with grid power. In the past year, there have been several planned and unplanned power outages. Backup power provides peace of mind to keep the lights on, as well as the fridge and freezer (and other "critical" loads).

The exemption applies for systems that produce at least 1kW and up to 100kW AC electricity. 100% of costs are eligible for the 8.1% (or more) sales and use tax exemption. The Renewable Energy Tax Credit commonly referred to as the Federal Tax Credit or ITC, provides a 26% federal tax credit in 2021 for residential and commercial solar installations.
